Butin de Buti

a film by Yves Chaudouët and Axelle Guéret

France, Italy

feature film in development

'You absolutely must come with us to Buti in Italy! We're going to find a treasure there!'
Directors Yves Chaudouet and Axelle Guéret desperately try to convince actor Yann Boudaud and actress Valérie Dréville to accompany them to an obscure little Tuscan theater in Buti. The theater once played host to films by the Straub-Huillet filmmakers. The theater's director, Dario Marconcini, is eagerly awaiting their arrival. When the newly-formed film crew arrives, the theater troupe is busy rehearsing for the annual Passion of the Christ. The Frenchmen are hectic as they discover the Canto del Maggio, improvise in Ottava rima, watch Straub-Huillet's omnipresence and make unexpected changes. Yann is fascinated by the show and the discovery of this popular tradition of play, while Valérie causes a scandal by transfiguring the theft of a fetish she discovered while rummaging through the theater's archives.
So there really was a treasure...
